livestockGEM™ Ear Punch has been specially formulated to extract from a range of ear punch collection devices, from a range of species.
- The kit’s flexible methodology allows seamless adaptation to different ear punch designs
- The protocol has been designed to work on a range of third party hardware platforms
- Reactions can be closed-tube and hands-off.
- All buffers and reagents are PCR and Mass Spec compatible, so no downstream purification is required.
These features make livestockGEM™ Ear Punch ideal for large-scale automation in livestock genotyping workflows, whilst being as easy to process hundreds of samples per day by hand. The closed-tube nature of the method protects the integrity of the sample through the extraction procedure: limiting opportunity for cross contamination and operator error.

Three different sized amplicons of the GAPDH gene were amplified from ear punch extractions (see Figure 1).
qPCR traces from 20 ear punches extracted from various positions along the ears of two cows , limited variation is seen in the yield irrespective of the animal or position along the ear of the sampling (see Figure 2).
