ZyGEM’s prepGEM™ is also suitable for use in basic research. For many applications requiring a PCR to isolate or validate the presence of a gene or marker of interest, there is no need to generate large quantities of highly pure DNA. For PCR amplification of either genes or markers of interest, minimal quantities of DNA are generally required. What is important is the reliable presentation of that template material. prepGEM™ is ideal for these applications.
The high activity of the prepGEM™ range of sample preparation kits not only releases the DNA from the sample, but also prepares the template by stripping out the nucleosomes in gDNA templates, leaving a sample comprising approximately 90% single-stranded DNA. This treatment leaves the target DNA readily available for PCR-based amplification.
The speed of the ZyGEM range of optimized kits offers the researcher the option of preparing DNA templates as part of the PCR set-up process, rather than as a step in its own right. In most cases the preparative protocol requires only around 25 minutes of hands-free time to routinely generate a robust template suitable for single or multi-locus PCR analysis, allowing the researcher to use this time to simultaneously set up the downstream assay. prepGEM™ kits are customized for use with a variety of sample materials.
